A leading FMCG organisation is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join its legal function on a 14-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave.
This is a mid-level managerial role focused on legal and regulatory compliance in the food sector.
The role:
- Provide legal oversight and guidance on UK and EU food legislation and related regulatory matters.
- Ensure the organisation’s products and processes comply with applicable food laws, labelling standards, and industry codes of practice.
- Review and approve product packaging and artwork for legal and regulatory compliance.
- Lead responses to consumer complaints involving legal or compliance issues.
- Supervise and support a Junior Legal Counsel, offering guidance and mentoring.
- Work cross-functionally with regulatory, quality, marketing, and external stakeholders.
Ideal Candidate:
- UK-qualified solicitor (6 PQE +) with substantial in-house legal experience within the FMCG sector.
- Strong working knowledge of food law, labelling regulations, and consumer protection legislation.
- Experience dealing with packaging approvals and consumer-related legal matters.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and handle a varied compliance-focused workload.
- Previous experience managing or mentoring legal professionals is preferred.
