It has been announced recently that the popular court show Judge Judy will be coming to an end after 25 successful seasons. With famous catchphrases such as ‘Baloney’ and ‘I eat morons like you for breakfast’, Judy Sheindlin was a force to be reckoned with. She was loved by many daytime TV watchers as well those that can’t get enough of legal dramas and courtroom telly, inspiring many other shows around the world like the UK’s Judge Rinder. You can only imagine how many people have been inspired to take up their own law career and get a legal job in places like London.
In an article by the BBC, Sheindlin explains how “[CBS] has 25 years of reruns, so what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns”, meaning she won’t be completely gone from our screens. There are more than 5,000 episodes of the popular series, which in 2015, Sheindlin acquired ownership of in exchange for more episodes, before selling them back to CBS in 2017 for around £78.25 million enabling her to “move up on the list of America’s richest self-made women”.
However, this is not Judy Sheindlin’s last goodbye for television. After winning the lifetime achievement award at the 2019 daytime Emmys, she confirmed during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres that she will be returning with a new showed called Judy Justice in 2022. The network has yet to be confirmed, but for now, CBS will be showing reruns of Judge Judy.
