Senior Safeguarding Lawyer

LAW Absolute is currently recruiting on a permanent basis for a Senior Safeguarding Lawyer to join our client the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.
The London Borough of Barking & Dagenham has spent the last few years going through an ambitious transformation programme in order to build a council that is capable of delivering real change for the community. Whilst this change has resulted in the council winning the LGC Driving Growth award and the LGC Entrepreneurial Council of the Year 2019 award, they are looking to recruit an ambitious and proactive Senior Safeguarding Lawyer who can help them take things further.
The successful Senior Safeguarding Lawyer will be directly accountable to the Deputy Head of Legal Community and, will be responsible for the delivery of legal advice and decisions on complex casework in the areas of safeguarding across both childcare and adult social services.
As the Senior Safeguarding Lawyer you will undertake the following duties:
- Carry a caseload split 50/50 between childcare and adult social care matters
- Manage a team of 3 Adult Social Care Lawyers, 1 Education Lawyer and a number of staff from the Children’s Services team both Paralegal and Lawyer level
- Undertake performance reviews and 1 to 1 meetings with staff
- Provide guidance and support to staff to enhance their development
- Supervision will be an essential part of the role.
The successful Safeguarding Lawyer will come on board as a senior member and will be joining a team of specialist Lawyers. It is important that you have a real enthusiasm for assisting with developing and mentoring colleagues as this will be an important part of the role. A high standard of client care is required in this position. Due to the expectation that candidates carry a mixed caseload of both adult and childcare matters it is essential that you are well versed in all areas of safeguarding. Previous management/supervision experience is essential for this role.
