William Hill loses company secretary
15th January 2015
One of the UK’s largest bookmakers William Hill has lost its general counsel and company secretary after Thomas Murphy, who previously held the post, moves onto an opportunity with Travel Commerce Platform Travelport.
Murphy held one of the sector’s most high profile GC and company secretary jobs working for one of the UK’s largest gambling corporations. Murphy took on the positon in 2007 and saw the rise of internet gambling and the enforcement of the Gambling Act 2005 during the length of his post.
The former GC and company secretary leaves his position at the bookmakers for a GC role at Travelport. In his place, group director of legal services Michael Leadbeater has taken up the GC post at William Hill. Leadbeater took on the in-house job as director of group legal services after nine years working for international law firm Eversheds.
William Hill is listed on the London Stock Exchange as well as a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. As of 2013 the company reported a market capitalisation value of £4.07bn.
