Two women have won their divorce settlements in a landmark Supreme Court ruling and this could change future cases from now on.

Alison Sharland and Varsha Gohil won an appeal to get more money in their divorce settlements after the court had found their ex-husbands had been misleading about their assets. This could change future proceedings and is therefore something people in lawyer and solicitor jobs need to be aware of.

A report on the BBC revealed that Alison Sharland received £10 million from her divorce and Varsha Gohil received £270,000 and a car from her divorce after the Supreme Court found that their husbands had hid how much wealth they had in the original proceedings.

The solicitors for Ms Sharland’s ex-husband said that the court’s decision would potentially “open the floodgates” to thousands of other divorce cases.

Ms Sharland, added, “I hope that their decision sends out a message to everyone going through a divorce.”

The Supreme Court said that both claims would now return to the High Court.
