The weirdest interview tasks and questions asked by employers
31st July 2015
Interviews can be stressful enough for candidates, but just imagine being asked unanswerable questions and being tricked during your interview.
Whilst the majority of interviews for lawyer jobs follow the standard interview etiquette, there are interviewers out there that don’t like to stick to the rules and will ask unanswerable questions and difficult brainteasers during interviews.
Here we have compiled a list of some of the weirdest tasks that candidates have been asked to do, and the weirdest questions that people have been asked during an interview.
What would you do if you were the one survivor in a plane crash?
Apparently Airbnb have previously asked this question to interviewees. This is a difficult question to answer, and of course answering this question depends on where the crash has taken place, but I think most people would agree that you would count your blessings that you survived and would then try and get help.
To get some answers for this question you should watch Castaway. You can see the trailer for the movie featuring Tom Hanks below.
Create an animal or creature?
Apparently Chester Zoo has allegedly asked candidates to create animals and creatures by using drinking straws and other objects. Just imagine the look on the candidates faces when the interviewer asked them to do this!
It would be interesting to find out what the best creation was and whether they got a job as a result of passing this test.
Show me an impression of a Reverse Pterodactyl?
Fans of The Apprentice will probably have heard this question before as contestant Lee McQueen was asked to do this in his interview shown on the programme. Arguably one of the funniest/cringe worthy/embarrassing moments ever on the programme (and that is saying something)!
Check out one of the shows biggest put down’s below.
Who would win in a fight between Spiderman and Batman?
It is not uncommon to be asked this question if you happen to be going for a role at Stanford University in the US. The candidate should really find out a bit more information about where the fight is taking place.
So, for example, if the fight is taking place in a cave then Batman would naturally have an advantage, whilst if the fight was taking place at the top of a building then Spiderman would be the most likely victor.
If you happen to ever get asked this question you should try and elaborate as saying “Batman” or “Spiderman” is probably not what the employer wants to hear.
Say Peter Pepper Picked a Pickled Pepper’ and cross-sell a washing machine at the same time?
This task can be attributed to MasterCard and although it is a complete tongue-twisting phrase it might be worth having a go to get some brownie points during your interview.
How would you hide a dead body?
According to an article on BBC.com, one person said he was asked how he would hide a dead body. This is certainly one of the strangest questions you will ever be asked in an interview.
Unfortunately the same person also got asked the following questions: “What is your favourite episode of South Park?” and “How would you build a spice-rack for a blind person?”
