The Law Society launches new campaign
9th September 2014
The independent professional body for solicitors The Law Society has announced a new campaign to combat the increasing levels of legal fees and cuts to legal aid.
The campaign ‘Access to Justice’ comes shortly after the Society launched a separate campaign ‘Use a Professional. Use a Solicitor’ that looks to encourage people to enlist the services of a professional solicitor rather than unregulated providers.
Both campaigns are set to affect law professionals across the sector from London company secretary jobs to in-house lawyers as they hope to improve the legal sector amidst change and legal aid cuts coming into force.
The Access to Justice Day was announced on the 8th September by Law Society president Andrew Caplen, stating in this article that “Access to justice is a fundamental corollary to the rule of law. Without access to justice, the rule of law is nothing more than a concept, an ideal.” Caplen went on to say that “The Law Society's view is that that access to justice is under threat.” The campaign comes as The Law Society hope to raise public awareness of access to justice issues.
