Tesco in-house lawyers take to shop floor
2nd October 2014
Multinational supermarket chain Tesco has announced that its team of in-house lawyers, including its general counsel Adrian Morris, are to take to the shop floor in the coming months in a new campaign aimed at implementing more helping hands in the run up to Christmas.
The campaign, being dubbed ‘Feet on the Floor’ has seen staff that hold top in-house legal jobs at the superstore and those in head office positions being among the 4,000 staff who were told that they must work one day a fortnight in stores during the Christmas period. The news comes after multinational firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer was drafted in to begin an investigation into the supermarket’s overestimation of first-half profits, as detailed in this article.
The campaign is the brainchild of chief executive Dave Lewis and is an acceleration of the store’s annual ‘helping hands’ effort, in which head office staff commit to shop floor tasks in the final week before Christmas to lighten pressure on Tesco workers. It is hoped that it will help staff better understand their customers.
