Tailored Minimum Wage Scrapped by SRA
18th May 2012
The Solicitors Regulation Authority has voted to scrap the tailored minimum wage for trainee solicitors, meaning that trainees in future could be paid the national minimum wage of £6.08 per hour.
The change has proved controversial, with some arguing that this limits access to the career, especially for people looking to become solicitors later in life. Others point out no other profession has requirements like these for employers, and that businesses will still be able to pay above minimum wage if they wish.
The change will not be immediate, but will come into effect in two years time, giving employers time to prepare.
