4th December 2014
Legislation has come into effect this week as the government passes a ruling that will allow for parents to share parental leave equally. The new legislation is due to come into force for parents of babies born on or after the 5th April 2015 and will permit them to share up to 50 weeks of leave and 37 weeks of pay.
The new legislation is set to affect those who hold London lawyer jobs with magic circle firms as they are set to review their arrangements. Following the introduction of the new legislation, Linklaters is reported to be the first to go beyond its statutory obligations.
Linklaters has stated that this is to encourage a diverse and inclusive work culture in their offices and will match their current maternity rights offering, which stands at full pay for up to six months’ leave according to this article. Simon Davies, Linklaters’ firmwide managing partner, said of the firm’s enhanced Shared Parental Leave (SPL), “providing support for parents working at Linklaters in this way was an easy decision to take.”
