Leading firm launches social mobility push
10th April 2012
A leading, London-based legal firm has announced the launch of the latest part of its ambitious diversity push, with a real estate lawyer being appointed in charge of social mobility.
The partner, who is already a ‘sponsor’ of ethnicity initiatives at the Magic Circle practice, will be responsible for ensuring a wider range of law graduates are recruited into the business, with more attention paid to giving those from less privileged backgrounds an opportunity to get ahead in the profession.
Under the project, partners of the firm have agreed to take on different roles all designed to help promote diversity, including focusing on work-life balance and flexible working; gender; sexual orientation and risk, and disability.
This measure is linked to Prime, a social mobility scheme which requires firms who sign up to offer between 30 and 35 hours of work experience to eligible applicants.
This latest announcement will be welcomed by legal recruitment agencies in London, who play a key role in increasing the diversity of solicitors within the sector.
