Kim Koopersmith elected chair of Akin Gump
16th October 2012
There have been some big changes at litigation firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld after it was announced that Kim Koopersmith has been elected as the chair of the Texas-based company.
Formerly the US Managing partner of the firm, she takes over the prized role following the stepping down of former chair Bruce Mclean. The New York-based litigator has been with the company for 19 years and is now one of a handful of female lawyers to lead a firm in the country. Early reports suggest that the Koopersmith has no plans to change the strategy of the firm, seeing the position as a natural progression from her role as US Managing partner that she took back in 2008.
After being the chairman of the firm for over 20 years, Mclean will continue working with Akin Gump as a senior executive partner. The election is a clear indication that firms across the world are developing equal opportunities for legal jobs.
