Interim head of legal at Shell announced
6th February 2014
Multinational oil and gas company Royal Dutch Shell has announced its human resources and corporate officer Hugh Mitchell as its interim head of legal. Mitchell is to take over legal responsibility for the company on a temporary basis following the sudden resignation of former legal director Peter Rees on the 10th January.
As one of the most significant temporary legal jobs in the UK, Mitchell will be leading a 135 member global legal team until the appointment of a permanent role. The position comes with the support of corporate general counsel Michiel Brandjes, as Shell is unable to say how long the process of hiring a new legal director will take and what the procedure will consist of.
Rees left the company earlier this year when his tenure ended with immediate effect on the 10th January, according to this article, despite a statement from Shell at the time stating that “Peter has agreed to remain at Shell until 11 February 2014 in order to assist with the transition of his responsibilities”.
