27th February 2014
It is being reported that the potential merger between mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse and online electronics merchant Dixons is being overseen by Linklaters and Osborne Clarke. News of a merger only broke this week and could see the combined business valued at a total of around £3.4 billion.
Tim Morris, who holds both general counsel and company secretary roles at Carphone Warehouse, is thought to be at the helm of the legal work involved in the deal but Osborne Clark, who have declined to comment on their involvement, have also been brought in to advise. Dixons is thought to be taking legal advice from its longstanding advisor, Linklaters.
Should the merger go ahead, the business would be responsible for a total of 2,900 shops in Europe and would be likely to achieve a place in the FTSE 100, according to this article. While the merger of the two famous companies is still reported to be at a ‘very preliminary’ stage, the Takeover Panel needs the businesses to a make final decision by 24th March.
