Big Bear Group sued by legal firm
11th June 2012
Food producers Big Bear Group, whose products include Sugar Puffs and Fox’s Glacier Mints, are being sued by a leading Manchester-based legal firm.
The private practice, which provides legal jobs in a variety of sectors, is aiming to recover the £255,000 that it says is owed by the company in unpaid fees.
The case relates back to Big Bear’s plans to float on the London Stock Exchange’s AIM sub-market, which were set in motion over two-and-a-half years ago in the autumn of 2009.
The corporate partner for a firm which is now owned by the Manchester outfit advised on the proposed move, which was subsequently abandoned around six months later. The solicitor was asked to continue to work for the group, however, due to the possibility of a deal being struck with a trade buyer or private equity investor.
Last year, Big Bear was sold to Raisio Group, with the partner in question claiming he played no part in the action and was never paid for the many hours that he put into a potential transaction.
