When it comes to entering the law or business sector, networking is a foundation for growth. Speaking to like-minded professionals, gaining information and vital contacts are all part of the job and one of the ways to success within this fast-paced industry. Reflection on 2019 legal and networking events
The legal and networking events in London change year on year and many events that were a success in 2019 are unfortunately not returning for 2020. However, listed below are some of the best legal and networking events that happened over the course of the last year, some of which are returning in the future.
London Law Expo
Hosted at Old Billingsgate, the London Law Expo is one of the biggest and best law expos in Europe and will be returning to London on 12th October 2021. With 5 presentation stages, 50 speakers and over 70 exhibitors to talk to, The London Law Expo is more than just an exhibition, it’s a journey of discovery.
Welcoming names from the worlds of legal practice management, technology and IT security the event will explore legal technology systems, process and how the industry will progress in 2021.
We asked Rachel Davis, Managing Director at The Lawyer Portal why she thinks attending events like these are crucial for success within the industry:
“Networking is an essential part of securing any legal job or work experience opportunity. Make a note of the people you speak with, the organisations they work for and the positions they hold - grab a business card if you can! By doing this, you can refer back to conversations you had in any future applications and reference why it spurred you on to apply. Networking also provides the perfect opportunity for a brief, personal follow up email and thank you after the event. You never know where it might take you - the aim is to become more than just a piece of paper!”
Women in Law Summit
Another event that will be missed in 2020 is the Women in Law Summit. The sell-out event was surely one of the most eye-catching, educational and inspirational events in the law calendar in 2019. It was hosted at London Olympia last May, whereby attendees could learn from industry experts sharing their insights and visions for the future face of law. Women could pick up tips and tricks, listen to inspiring speakers and dive into a deep discussion about women in the world of law.
The Lexcel Conference took place at The Law Society and provided professionals in law firms and in-house departments with frameworks to develop their operational efficiencies, manage risk effectively, reduce costs and improve client satisfaction. Attendees got to listen to panel sessions, involve themselves in workshop sessions and took advice from industry expert speakers including the president from The Law Society. However, The Law Society has plenty of events lined up for 2020, which are listed here.
The event that was hosted in October, LawBizTech London, was described as “The leading legal event provides a better opportunity to place your companies brand in front of more law firms.” The 3-day extravaganza event provided industry newbies as well as experts to network with over 1500 legal professionals from across central London. Communicate with leading suppliers and pick up top tips from leading industry speakers.
Students, current employees of large law firms or professionals looking to enter into the law sector, make sure you’re taking advantage of the resources offered to you. Attending conferences and expos can open once unnoticed doors for you and your business. Listen to what professionals have to say, take business cards and make notes about important information, you’ll thank yourself later down the line.
