Plan your interviews!

It is not only a question of manners, but also of good sense to plan the interviews in advance and ensure the candidates whom you interview enjoy the experience and warm to you. It is wise to assume every candidate is going to be ideal and have other options - this assumption will ensure you give the best possible impression. The choice of whom to offer will be yours - but they can always say 'No.'!

Ensure you are familiar with the candidate's background prior to the interview. A positive tone is set if the interviewee feels you have taken the time to read his/her C.V.

Structure the interview with care. Advise the candidate in the first few minutes of what is to take place and how long you expect the meeting to last. This approach which will give a credible and professional impression to the candidate and give him/her some peace of mind about you and the work place.

Write notes during the interview. This is not only vital in order that you remember afterwards, what was discussed and your impressions but is also gratifying for the candidate who will assume you are taking him/her seriously.
