Why Recruit a Temporary Lawyer?

The temporary and contract solution is used in many situations including the following:

  • Sick leave cover
  • Maternity leave cover
  • Holiday leave cover
  • Specific projects
  • Cover pending permanent recruitment
  • Cover when permanent recruitment is impossible for business reasons or headcount restrictions
  • Temporary with view to becoming Permanent (Temp to Perm).

The nature of legal work can make a 'temporary' lawyer (also known as a locum, interim and special project lawyer) particularly useful. This is because it is driven by specific cases, commercial/business deals, property acquisitions, and one-off projects.

It is a fact that regardless of economic conditions, lawyers are always in demand. The political and economic climate will have a subtle or obvious impact on the expertise in demand ( a simplistic example being M&A lawyers in boom time and insolvency lawyers in a recession) and these shifts also make the use of 'Temporaries' expedient.
